Taking the leap
or jumping over. What does it mean to jump over? lf you
get your legs into the ground and you get the energy
down, then you can spring up. As we do our work many of
you expect some release of the armor and life will be
better. Doesn't happen that way! Some things get better
and many of you - because there's some release of energy
and greater movement in the body - make more money in
your practice. It brings a certain prosperity and many of
you stop there. Now I can maybe have a new
Mercedes". But that breaks down in a while. As the energy
in your body moves more profoundly, the spring inside
gets tighter so that the time comes as the spring gets
tighter step by step that you are ready for the jump - to
jump. But some of you as the spring gets tighter, without
thinking the organism says Wait... a minute! Maybe
my life will change. Oi! I don't know how!" So you unwind
the spring. You withdraw from the movement of life. You
get cold inside. But on the surface you are still able to
move superficially. You have that choice. You keep going
and the body, the organism builds ready to find ... you
don't know what. Nobody can tell you what.
lt reminds me
of my work with drug addicts many years ago, when I lived
in a community of drug addicts, where I worked with them
for ten years. We would say to the "stupidities", in
trying to motivate change. We would say You are on
top of a roof of a big building and three feet away - one
meter away - is another building. Now jump from here to
there!" Three feet (all of them could jump three feet).
But they would say "But it's a thousand feet down!"
having nothing to do with the three feet. So it is with
the whole body. A number of you are at that very
dangerous point. It's time to jump the three feet. But
some of you won't do that. Which is okay. Each one is
responsible for his/her own life and I don't consider
that if you don't jump that you are bad. There's no bad,
no good. You have responsibility for your life.
Now what is
this big leap? This big leap is: to breathe, to accept
the breath as far as it goes, to let the breath go
further, to heat up this room, to feel the sensations
(and especially as the breath and the armor is loosened)
in the pelvis. To say "Ohoh, how do I live with thisl"
And that requires that you step outside your culture and
say Okay, what the government says, what the church
says, what my father says, what my mother says, that's
all there." Once you ask the question "What does my body
say?" Then you are outside the culture and then there are
decisions to make. And the decision is Okay, body,
how are we going to live?" And some of you will think
Oh, my God, I can't live in the world this way!"
That's
bullshit! You will find many, many reasons to not live by
your body. Now, living by your body is not a new idea.
Jesus lived by his body. Then the peopie who became his
followers, who would not live with their bodies, created
a business called churcb. Now these armored people, who
were unable to live with their body, substituted having
power and they made rules, they created prisons. And the
rules were: honor your father and your mother, only have
one lover, work hard and pay money to the church, don't
do anything that the priest says is bad. And remember
that the pope is watching you all the time. Now they
created those rules, which is okay; that's what powerful
people do. And people accept it. Wonderful book that you
can read by Reich - Mass Psychology of Fascism. All kinds
of fascism, red, black, brown, it doesn't matter. It's
the acceptance - WE ACCEPT - the morality of their
body!!! So when you begin to accept the movement of your
own body, you are outside the culture, without shame -
without shame.
So the leap is
accepting that the force of life, wherever it will lead,
will be an exciting life, will be a full life. And it may
look very, very strange to people around you, and bring a
lot of gossip all around you.- Oh, look what she
does...", ...did you hear" and did you
know..." Because the people who will not accept the
morality and the movement of their own body: energy keeps
building - that's the nature of this organism and it must
somehow come out. Now you accept your body; it comes out
in many ways, as part of the universe. It is
automatically religious - not church - but religious
because always you are living "Who am I in the
universe?". But the people who can't do that, they must
break out and hit out because otherwise their bodies will
explode. And they do explode. It's called cancer, AIDS,
and all the other symptoms of disease.
We will keep
coming back to this, remembering always that you have a
choice in this work. And do not play games with me. (l
don't care if you play games with everybody else.) With
words, "This is too difficult!" Oh, people say many
things in order to leave this arena, but it's always for
only one reason. Life begins to be very very full, the
fire grows and oh, they call the fire engine: "Put water
on itl Put it out!". They can't say I don't want
life!". They say "Oh no,I would rather talk about
dreams." I would rather go to the beauty parlor".
And then these people leave our work.
I don't think
badly of them because we each have the responsibility for
ourselves. And also, this kind of decision to not go any
further is really not made by the head, by reason. The
organism stops - then it must give words. Oh, the
therapist treated me too hard." On and on and on. So I
just want to encourage you to see yourself and to feel
yourself as a LIVING organism, not as a verbal organism
because language is the most subtle form of energy
release. If it is not supported by the fire of total life
energy, then it becomes fashion. And we need words, it's
one of the ways we communicate. But as you accept the
life in you, your language will change.
